- : Exactly what does Xon/Xoff or CTS/RTS have to do with Class 1

-
- When sending faxes (like other data) you still need some handshaking btw
- Amiga and modem. The Class 1 fax standard defines Xon/Xoff as manatory
- with RTS/CTS as recommended option. any manufacturers support RTS/CTS for
- Fax (as well as data) but some do not. I have even seen some modem
- designers drop the RTS/CTS support supplied in the Rockwell chipsets and
- enforce Xon/Xoff in Fax mode because they only ever use PCs and do not
- understand the concept of a 7 wire serial port.
-
- Unfortunately, there are no specific commands which can be sent to many
- modems to set the handshaking in fax mode, unlike data mode. Some
- manufacturers accept the data modem commands but most do not. Most just
- enforce a specific handshaking in fax mode (most likely Xon/Xoff) and
- many actually automatically support both RTS/CTS and Xon/Xoff.
-
- GPFax generally uses Xon/Xoff for Class 1 and RTS/CTS for Class 2
